Dear Sir or Madame: All successful civilizations in history, from the ancient Greeks to Renaissance Italy, have had a strong, robust interest in the arts. While these programs are also essential to securing America's future in a global economy, promoting the arts is critical to maintaining a vibrant culture and well-rounded society. Scholarships like the Eileen Geduld Zaglin Scholarship remind us that an investment in the arts is an investment in our future. By offering scholarships to under-privileged high schoolers, this award ensures that financial difliculty won't stand in the way of our young people pursuing careers in the arts. I'm sure Ms. Zaglin would have been proud that a scholarship in her name is helping financially-strapped graduates continue their education. I remember being there 16 years ago when this scholarship foundation was started. Since then, dozens of students have received help through the Eileen Geduld Zaglin Scholarship and been able to pursue a career and education in the arts without having to choose economic needs over artistic passion. I'm proud this community is continuing this tradition and supporting artistic expression and creativity in our culture. |
